What you can study in the Department of Information and Communication Engineering

About Department of Information and Communication Engineering

Japan is a world leader in not only computer and communication technology but also in the fields of hardware and software development. These are areas which are expected to continue expanding into the future.

Students in this department can study "Fundamental Technology" supporting today's IT society. Graduates of this department are expected to become Technology Engineers, supporting information and communication technology in society.

Applications are welcomed from students with ability who have an interest in developing better IT in society through the construction of information and communication engineering systems.

Characteristics of this Department

For first and second year students in this department, the course is designed to focus on the close connection between IT and other special fields. For students reaching the third grade, the department is divided into two special areas of study, namely, a "Communication Course" and an "Information Course".

About Department of Information and Communication Engineering

Students are expected not only to submit their experiment results in the form of written reports but also to read them aloud in front of Professors and the other students involved in their projects. It is very important for technology engineers to improve their reading ability, and this department is keen to foster this skill through "Experiment and Graduation Training".

In addition, students are actively and positively encouraged to acquire various additional qualifications related to this department. For example, a student who has completed the second grade of the course will be at the standard required to try for the Japanese national qualification of, "Fundamental Information Technology Engineer". Furthermore, we offer subjects to foster the students' ability to understand technological theses and manuals written in English. During the spring and summer vacations, there are classes designed to help prepare the students for the ITEE (Information Technology Engineering Examination). Incidentally, specific qualifications are authorized as study credits by the department.

Model Curricula

There are three model curricula to match the future courses in this department.

Communication Network
Students can acquire the special knowledge necessary to become a "Communication System Technology Engineer" or a "Network Technology Engineer".

System Development
Students can acquire special knowledge of both of hardware and software which is necessary to become a "Built-in System Technology Engineer", for example.

Software Development
Students can acquire the special knowledge needed to become an "Information Processing Technology Engineer", for example, a "Programmer", "System Technology Engineer", etc.

For first and second year students there are lectures on fundamental subjects and the basic fields necessary to study "Information Processing Technology" and "Communication Technology".

To meet the needs of students when they reach the third grade, this department is divided into a "Communication Course" and an "Information Course". Ordinary subjects are the same for both courses but their compulsory subjects differ. Consequently, all students can systematically study "IT Fundamental Technology".

Communication Course

This course allows a thorough study of "Communication Technology". Its laboratory is roughly divided into "Light Wave", "Electric Wave", "Electromagnetic Wave" and "Mathematics".

Information Course

This course enables students to study in depth, "Communication Technology". Its laboratory is roughly divided into "Programming", "Software", "Structural Analysis" and "Mathematics".

Curricula

General Education Subject
This subject is designed to produce talented individuals with extensive technical knowledge and a broad social outlook.

Special Education Subject
This subject is unique in the department and aims to foster the creativity, knowledge and skills necessary to become a "Science Technology Engineer" in the field of "Information and Communication Engineering".

Teaching Profession Subject
This is a subject for students wishing to acquire a license for the teaching profession. It is possible to acquire a license for either "Information" or "Technical Industry".

Information and Communication Engineering Training I, II
Students of this department are allocated to the laboratory from the second term of third grade through fourth grade and grapple with "Graduation Training" in the "Information and Communication Engineering Seminar II" and "Information and Communication Engineering Training I, II".

Information and Communication Engineering Experiments I, II, III
"Information and Communication Engineering Experiments I, II, III" allows students to gain an in-depth understanding of logic and phenomena through practical study of "Information and Communication Engineering". This is one of the most important subjects in the "Information and Communication Engineering Department".
